PEG NEIREITER loves teaching. Whether it’s at a pre-school, at IVY Tech, or at Kitchen Affairs, she loves working with young people and has taught our children’s classes for more than 20 years.
On Tuesday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. Peg will be in the kitchen with our youngest students as Little Guys Make A July 4th Picnic ($37). We’ll make a Flag Cake, and Firecracker Sandwiches. We’ll set off some “Safe” fireworks outside, and take home some American Blessings Mix. This is always a fun class, for ages 6 through 8; but please remember that we only take 8 students in classes for ”little guys.”
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, July 8 through July 10, beginning at 10:00 a.m. we will hold our Kids Three-Day Cooking Camp. The fee for all three days this year will be $110, and you must sign up for all three days. This year, we’ll make some breakfast dishes and an overnight casserole, along with some Fresh Fruit Smoothies. Chicken Packets with Vegetables are wonderful and easy, and Ice Cream Scoopies are just fun to make and to eat. We’ll also make Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas and Santa Fe Rice, Parmesan Chicken Fingers with Mini Potato Bites, and lots more, including a Bittersweet Chocolate Torte which is a two-day process to make. We’ll talk about napkin folding, and table settings. Each camper will receive a notebook, complete with all the recipes and hand-outs. All our “kids” classes are fully “hands-on” and are all designed for grades 4 through 7. We limit these to 12 students per class.
We can only offer the camp once this summer, so sign your child up quickly.
Peg’s last class this quarter is again for the younger set as Little Guys Learn The Basics ($37) on Sunday September 7, beginning at 1:30 p.m. This one is truly basic, as we learn to make a sandwich and a soup, along with an easy dessert. The focus here is on learning to read a recipe, to measure, to mix, and some simple “kitchen rules” to develop the right skills from the beginning. We recommend this class for any 6- to 8-year-olds with limited or no hands-on kitchen experience. Limited to 8 students. It’s a great start to cooking!
